By sending us a completed Non-Resident Tax Form, your withdrawals and distributions will be taxed at a reduced rate.

If you don’t send us a form – and if the country you reside in doesn’t have a tax treaty with Canada – the higher legislated withholding tax rate of 25% will be applied.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When does the form expire?

    This declaration expires on December 31 three years after the form is signed and dated OR when there is a change to the taxpayer’s eligibility for the declared benefits – whichever is earlier.

  2. What if there are multiple account holders? Who needs to submit a form?

    Each holder must complete a separate non-resident tax form for a lower withholding tax rate to be applied to account transactions.

  3. What happens if there’s a change in your client’s circumstances?

    If a change in circumstances – like an address change – makes any information on the form incorrect, you and your clients must fill out a new form or call us to cancel to old one.
